Using social media to create social good

By June 23, 2008September 1st, 202015 Comments

As you probably noticed, I’m not a big fan of slides full of bullets—it’s mostly images.

View all the websites mentioned in the deck, as well as all the sites recommended by Twitter friends here:

I’ve also bookmarked all of the Twitter contributors in case you’d like to follow them:

Last, special thanks to Eric Weaver from Edelman Digital who coordinated PodCamp, and to Guy Kawasaki and Chris Brogan, for using reaching out to their network to help me find great examples for this presentation.

So, who’s doing a great job in the social good space?

  • Nice slides Patrick. Thanks for sharing.

  • Hi Patrick – I’m sorry about the computer trouble but it looks like you put together a solid presentation in spite of it! Seattle is my old stomping ground (lived there for 12 years), I bet PodCamp Seattle was a fun and informative event. Thanks for posting. I also look forward to catching up on your blog.

  • Thanks, Lewis.

Michelle, technical difficulties really aren’t that big of a deal. I seldom have any. My only regret was that I missed some good speakers in the morning. My newer deck gave me the opportunity to pare some things and add a few others, so all was good.

And thanks for participating on the blog.

    Happy marketing.

    Patrick

  • Your presentation is great Patrick. Been reading/viewing a lot lately (have been put more and more in the spotlight lately, Eep!) and was all ready to drop you a note about Stand By What You Say…

And voila! There we are already!

    *massive grin*

Nice one dude, have shared internally at SV HQ.

    Cheers,

    J.

    Patrick,

It’s wonderful of you to focus on the good being produced by the people via social media.

    Aloha,
    NEENZ

  • James – Thanks so much. I’ve been enjoying http://blog.spinbox.com as well. Keep up the great work.

Neenz – You are always so kind, and thanks again for adding The Responsible Marketing Blog to http://socialmedia.alltop.com. Everyone should check it out. It’s an honor to be included.

  • Thank you for this! Especially for the socialgood and twittergood bookmarks. I saw Chris Brogan’s call for examples of social good with social media on twitter and wanted to keep up with the responses, as it is a topic I am very interested in. I did a quick summize search at the time but had not had the opportunity to do the search again for updates. Thanks to this post, your bookmarks, and your slides I now have a wealth of information to absorb on the topic.

  • Kim,

Don’t mention it. Glad you found it useful. Lots of good people to follow on the Twitter links, and the social good links represent some of my research as well as all of the examples shared by the people on Twitter and LinkedIn.

Feel free to share them with anyone you think might benefit.

  • AWESOME presentation and great idea. I wish more companies would embrace the idea.

Hi Patrick – with a master’s in International Development and as a former US Peace Corps volunteer, I am really interested in utilizing the power of social media to create social good!

Very nice presentation and thank you for sharing.

  • Great slideshow. We cover a lot of these topics with an emphasis on sustainability, health, energy, and social responsibility. Will share this.

  • You gave so many good examples – thank you for posting this.

I hope you will be able to present it at Podcamp Hawaii Oct 24-25, 2008!
