Why Instagram’s new TOS are a POS, and you should delete your account

instagramLove Instagram? Maybe not so much after you read their new terms of service (TOS):

Some or all of the Service may be supported by advertising revenue. To help us deliver interesting paid or sponsored content or promotions, you agree that a business or other entity may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos (along with any associated metadata), and/or actions you take, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you.

These terms make it possible for you to become the star in an ad you don’t even know about–and there’s no option to opt out. Honoring privacy is one of the Seven Keys to Responsible Marketing, and I don’t want pictures of my kids being used anywhere anyone pleases.

That’s why Instagram’s new TOS is, well, a POS, and I’ve deleted my account. Here’s how you download your Instagram pictures and delete your account, too.
